Understand Dread
Useful when…
- Taking deliberate charged shots against targets you can track
- Using the uncharged shot when the charged shot's half-second wait is not suitable
How do the attack modes compare?
Dread's uncharged and charged attacks are projectiles. Both have a listed 50% critical chance, 2× critical multiplier, and 20% status chance. The uncharged shot fires at a listed speed of 1 and deals 134.4 Slash alongside 16.8 each of Impact and Puncture. The charged shot takes 0.5 seconds and deals 302.4 Slash with the same listed Impact and Puncture components. Incarnon Form Charged Shot is distinct: it takes 0.6 seconds, has a 50% critical chance, 3× critical multiplier, and 30% status chance, and deals Impact, Slash, and Heat. Do not transfer its properties to the ordinary bow attacks.
What handling does it reward?
With projectile arrows, Dread requires leading moving targets rather than relying on hit-scan aim. Its one-arrow magazine and listed 0.7-second reload make shot placement important. A charged shot takes half a second and changes the damage profile toward substantially more Slash than the uncharged shot. Use the uncharged mode when that wait would cost a clear opportunity; use the charged mode when you can keep the target in your sights.
How does it differ from other bows?
Evensong has a lower listed critical chance of 25%, but its description adds support effects: wounded enemies cannot hurt allies, and kills empower ally weapons with Multishot. Kuva Bramma fires clusterbomb-tipped arrows and has low quiver capacity, while Cinta is described as offering quick shots, a shock wave, and a fully charged shot.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Projectile travel and a one-arrow magazine reward accurate timing.
- Charged shots require a half-second windup; Incarnon Charged Shot has its own 0.6-second charge.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not apply the Incarnon Form's 3× critical multiplier or Heat damage to ordinary shots.
- Do not confuse the 0.5-second ordinary charged shot with the separate 0.6-second Incarnon charged shot.
