Understand Opticor Vandal
Useful when…
- Use charged shots for the stronger direct hit and area blast when a brief charge is feasible.
- Use quick shots when speed matters more than the charged mode's listed damage.
What do its modes do?
The charged hitscan shot deals 40 impact, 280 puncture, and 80 slash damage in the listed attack values, with 24% critical chance, a 2.6× critical multiplier, and 30% status chance. Its separate area attack deals 200 magnetic damage, with falloff across 0–4.6 m and a 60% reduction at the end of that range. The quick hitscan shot lists half the charged direct values: 20 impact, 140 puncture, and 40 slash. Its magnetic area attack lists 100 damage with the same falloff. Keep the direct and area attack components distinct when judging a shot.
How does it handle?
The rifle has a 0.6-second charge time, fire rate 2, an eight-round magazine, and a 1.4-second reload. Compared with the base Opticor’s listed two-second charge, fire rate 1, five-round magazine, and two-second reload, the Vandal can cycle shots and recover from reloads sooner. Both still have a charge trigger, so it is not a conventional automatic rifle.
Where does investment make sense?
It has 24% critical chance, a 2.6× critical multiplier, and 30% status chance on the listed attacks. You can build toward critical or status behavior depending on what you want from its direct hit and blast. A Madurai polarity is listed. Its 14 Mastery requirement means it is not an early-access rifle, and the shorter charge is the defining practical improvement over the base handling.
What can go wrong?
The quick shot is convenient but carries half the listed direct and area damage of the charged attack. The blast has a shorter listed reach than the base Opticor and still suffers 60% falloff at its outer edge. Treat the Vandal as a charged weapon with a faster cadence, not as a no-charge substitute for an automatic rifle.
What alternatives have different handling?
Kuva Chakkhurr is described as a slow-firing rifle that rewards precision, while Telos Boltor is a Boltor variant and Tiberon is described as a burst rifle. Those descriptions suggest different shot rhythms; none establishes a direct replacement for the Vandal’s charged hit-and-blast behavior.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Shorter charge, faster listed fire rate, larger magazine, and shorter reload than the base Opticor.
- The direct charged hit and magnetic area attack have lower listed values than the base Opticor.
- Quick shot sacrifices half the charged attack’s listed direct and area damage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the Vandal’s blast reaches as far as the base Opticor’s listed blast.
- Using quick shots as though they have charged-shot damage.
