Gunblade with a charged hitscan ranged attack

Released Nov 27, 2014

Redeemer is a gunblade combining twin-blade melee strikes with a charged, hitscan ranged attack. Consider it when you want to switch between close-range melee and a distinct ranged shot without changing the equipped weapon. It requires Mastery Rank 4.

Understand Redeemer

Useful when…

  • Normal melee strikes with a Slash-heavy physical profile.
  • A charged 0.4-second hitscan ranged shot, with damage falloff beyond 10 m.
  • Regular and heavy slams for area damage.

How do its melee and ranged attacks differ?

Normal attacks deal 18 Impact, 36 Puncture, and 126 Slash damage, with 10% critical chance, a 1.8× critical multiplier, and 22% status chance at listed speed 0.833. The ranged attack is a separate hitscan mode: it has a 0.4-second charge, 10% critical chance, and 6.6% status chance, and deals 30 Blast damage. Its listed falloff starts at 10 m and ends at 20 m, with 83.33% reduction at the end. Regular slams deal 360 Impact in an area, with 50% falloff reduction by 5 m. Heavy slams deal 540 Blast in an area, with 30% reduction by 6 m. The 2 m listed range applies to the melee weapon, not the ranged shot. The weapon has a 0.4-second heavy-attack wind-up and 5-second combo duration.

When is the gunblade mode useful?

The hitscan shot offers a ranged option with a different damage profile from the normal melee strikes, but its 0.4-second charge and listed falloff make distance relevant. The regular melee mode is Slash-heavy, while the regular slam is Impact and the ranged attack and heavy slam are Blast. Use those mode-specific values when planning an approach rather than assuming every attack behaves like a single shotgun blast.

What other melee types are described?

Tipedo is a staff requiring Rank 3, described as fast and using sweeping crescent blades. Cassowar is a polearm requiring Rank 5, described as light and nimble with blades that sweep through groups. Dual Cleavers are dual swords requiring Rank 5.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Ranged damage is listed as 30 Blast, with substantial falloff from 10 to 20 m.
  • The ranged shot’s status chance is 6.6%, lower than the normal melee attack’s 22%.
  • The ranged mode requires a 0.4-second charge.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating the ranged shot as a full-damage long-range attack beyond its 10–20 m falloff band.
  • Confusing the 2 m melee range with the hitscan shot’s range.
  • Using the normal attack’s status chance for the charged ranged attack.
