Understand Vastilok
Useful when…
- Use normal attacks for its Slash-heavy melee damage and 31% status chance.
- Charge the ranged attack when a hitscan shot is useful; account for its falloff beyond 24 m.
- Use regular or heavy slams for area damage when nearby enemies are grouped.
What does the melee mode do?
Normal attacks deal 279 listed damage: 234.36 Slash, 25.11 Puncture, and 19.53 Impact. They have 19% critical chance, a 1.7× multiplier, 31% status chance, and listed speed 1. Range is 1 m, follow-through is 0.5, blocking angle is 45 degrees, and heavy-attack wind-up is 0.4 seconds.
How does the ranged shot work?
The ranged attack is hitscan and has a 0.4-second charge time. Its listed damage is 68.99 total: 49.68 Slash, 10.35 Puncture, and 8.97 Impact. It has 10.33% status chance. Falloff begins at 24 m and reaches a 95.65% reduction at 49 m. This is a separate mode from the much higher-damage normal melee attack.
What do the slam modes do?
A regular slam deals 558 Impact in an area with falloff to 5 m and 50% reduction. A heavy slam deals 837 Blast with falloff to 7 m and 30% reduction. The separate heavy-attack damage listing is 1,395. Do not use the normal melee damage figure to describe the ranged or slam modes.
Which alternatives have different mechanics?
Tak & Lug is a sword-and-shield weapon whose unique Heavy Attack throws the shield and inflicts Blast Status Effects over a wide area. Arum Spinosa is a warfan whose Heavy Attack launches toxic spines at ranged attackers. Dual Ichor is dual swords. These comparisons illustrate different weapon types and special attacks; they do not establish them as replacements for Vastilok's charged hitscan shot.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The ranged shot charges for 0.4 seconds and loses most listed damage by 49 m.
- Ranged status chance is 10.33%, separate from the normal melee attack's 31%.
- Its listed melee range is 1 m.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not describe the ranged attack as dealing the normal attack's 279 damage; it is a separate, lower-damage mode.
- Do not overlook the 0.4-second charge time or the 24 m falloff start.
- Do not treat the 1,395 heavy-attack damage as the heavy-slam damage; heavy slam is listed at 837 Blast.
