Understand Frail Momentum
Useful when…
- Use on a shotgun when the fire-rate bonus is valuable and the damage reduction is acceptable.
- Compare its tradeoff against fire-rate options with a different secondary benefit or against a critical-chance and fire-rate tradeoff.
Effect and fit
Frail Momentum is a Standard shotgun mod for a standard mod slot. At maximum rank it adds 90% Fire Rate and subtracts 15% Damage. The trade is explicit: faster firing comes with a damage penalty, so the listed bonus should not be read as a final damage result.
Rank investment
It reaches rank 5. The listed effects are +15% Fire Rate/−2.5% Damage at rank 0, +60%/−10% at rank 3, and +90%/−15% at rank 5. Rank 0 to 1 costs 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits; rank 2 to 3 costs 120 and 5,796; rank 4 to 5 costs 480 and 23,184. The late-rank step is substantially more expensive, so stopping short preserves resources while accepting a smaller fire-rate bonus and smaller penalty.
Tradeoffs and source
Accelerated Blast also adds fire rate, but its second listed effect is Puncture rather than a damage penalty. Amalgam Shotgun Barrage gives a lower listed fire-rate bonus plus revive speed. Critical Deceleration instead adds critical chance while reducing fire rate. These are different tradeoffs, not automatic replacements. A listed acquisition source for Frail Momentum is the Derelict Vault.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- At maximum rank, the fire-rate increase is paired with a 15% Damage reduction.
- The final rank step has a higher listed Endo and Credit cost than earlier example steps.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not describe the +90% Fire Rate as an unqualified damage increase; the max-rank mod also subtracts 15% Damage.
- Do not assume a higher fire-rate option is an equivalent trade: the named alternatives have different secondary effects.
