Malignant Force

Dual-stat rifle mod

Released Dec 19, 2013

Malignant Force adds Toxin damage and status chance to a rifle. Consider it when both bonuses fit the weapon build and you can make use of its status improvement.

Understand Malignant Force

Useful when…

  • Adding Toxin and status chance to a compatible rifle.
  • Using a lower rank when the slot capacity or resource cost makes maximum rank inconvenient.

What does it add?

At rank 0 it grants +15% Toxin and +15% Status Chance; rank 2 grants +45% of each, and rank 3 grants +60% of each. These are mod bonuses, not final weapon damage. It is a standard rifle mod with Madurai polarity and base drain 4.

Fit and alternatives

Install it in a standard rifle mod slot. The candidate Flawed Rifle Aptitude offers status chance without the Toxin bonus and is marked as a flawed variant; Catalyzer Link instead grants status chance only while aiming for 9 seconds after an ability cast. Galvanized Aptitude has a different on-kill damage condition as well as status chance. These are distinct effects, not automatic replacements for the dual bonus.

Rank investment

The mod reaches rank 3. Rank-up steps cost 30, 60, and 120 Endo, plus 1,449, 2,898, and 5,796 Credits respectively. Each rank improves both listed bonuses; stop earlier if capacity or fusion resources are more useful elsewhere.

Acquisition

The listed source is Corrupted Vor, with a 25% chance in the supplied drop entry.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Two bonuses share the mod slot, but both require investment to reach their listed maximum.
  • The aiming-conditional and on-kill alternatives have requirements that Malignant Force’s listed effect does not state.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Reading +60% Toxin as a final damage value.
  • Ignoring that the comparison mods have conditional triggers or differ in which bonuses they grant.
