Understand Rime Rounds
Useful when…
- Adding Cold damage while increasing a rifle's chance to inflict status effects.
- Fitting a Madurai polarity rifle mod when the build can make use of both bonuses.
What does it do?
At maximum rank, Rime Rounds grants +60% Cold and +60% Status Chance. At rank 0, each bonus is +15%; rank 2 gives +45% to each. These are mod bonuses, not a statement of the rifle's final damage or status chance.
Where can it be equipped?
It is a standard rifle mod with Madurai polarity and a maximum rank of 3. Its base drain is 4, and the listed compatibility is Rifle. No incompatible weapon names are specified.
How far should you rank it?
Ranking raises both bonuses together. The listed fusion steps cost 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits from rank 0 to 1, then 60 Endo and 2,898 Credits from 1 to 2, and 120 Endo and 5,796 Credits from 2 to 3. Rank it as far as the combined Cold and status gains justify for your rifle; it does not gain a separate effect at higher ranks.
How does it compare with status-only options?
Catalyzer Link grants +60% Status Chance only while aiming for 9 seconds after an Ability Cast. Flawed Rifle Aptitude lists +60% Status Chance without Cold, while Galvanized Aptitude lists +80% Status Chance plus a kill-triggered direct-damage bonus per status type. These have different conditions and effects, so they are not exact replacements for Rime Rounds' paired Cold and status bonuses.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Uses a standard rifle slot and adds no listed effect beyond Cold and Status Chance.
- Higher ranks increase both bonuses but require additional Endo and Credits.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the listed +60% Cold as the rifle's final damage increase.
- Assuming the aiming and ability-cast condition on Catalyzer Link also applies to Rime Rounds.
