Understand Tainted Shell
Useful when…
- Improve shotgun Accuracy when its firing pattern benefits from the bonus.
- Use only when accepting the linked Fire Rate penalty is reasonable for the weapon.
Effect and rank scaling
At rank 0, Tainted Shell grants +7% Accuracy and −5% Fire Rate; at rank 5, +42% Accuracy and −30% Fire Rate; at rank 10, +77% Accuracy and −55% Fire Rate. It is a Rare, standard shotgun mod with Vazarin polarity and base drain 4.
Investment and alternatives
The listed rank 9 to 10 step costs 15,360 Endo and 741,888 Credits for the final increase to +77% Accuracy and −55% Fire Rate. Accelerated Blast and Amalgam Shotgun Barrage instead add Fire Rate, with Amalgam Shotgun Barrage also listing Revive Speed. Critical Deceleration adds Critical Chance while reducing Fire Rate. These candidates have different effects and do not remove Tainted Shell’s accuracy-versus-rate tradeoff.
Practical limitation
The Accuracy gain is paired with reduced Fire Rate at every listed rank. Evaluate both stats together before spending a standard shotgun slot and capacity; no incompatible mod names are listed.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Accuracy increases together with a Fire Rate penalty, reaching −55% at maximum rank.
- Maximum-rank investment has a high listed Endo and Credit cost.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Evaluating the Accuracy bonus without accounting for the Fire Rate penalty.
- Assuming rank increases Accuracy alone; the negative Fire Rate effect scales with it.
