Understand Viral Quills
Useful when…
- Adding a companion attack against enemies within 20 meters.
- Applying the precept's Spore effect to targets already affected by Viral Status.
Quills and the Spore condition
At max rank, the precept launches 6 quills at enemies within 20 m. Each deals 60 Viral Damage with 40% Status Chance, and the attack has a 4-second cooldown. A Spore is added if the target is affected by a Viral Status. At rank 0 it launches 3 quills, each dealing 15 Viral Damage, with a 10-second cooldown; the Status Chance remains 40%.
Rank and slot
Viral Quills is a Rare Panzer Vulpaphyla standard precept with Penjaga polarity, zero base drain, and a maximum rank of 3. Its listed costs rise from 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits for ranks 0 to 1 to 120 Endo and 5,796 Credits for ranks 2 to 3. Ranking adds quills and damage while reducing the cooldown; the listed Status Chance remains unchanged.
Related Panzer precept
Panzer Devolution describes what the companion does when downed: it devolves into larval form, attacks with quills, and regains true form after 30 seconds. That is a different condition and function from Viral Quills' periodic attack on enemies within range.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The precept has a cooldown, which is 4 seconds at max rank.
- The Spore addition requires the target to already have a Viral Status.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the Spore is added to every target regardless of Viral Status.
- Ignoring the 20 m range and cooldown when expecting repeated attacks.
