Understand Diluc
Useful when…
- Stay on field to use normal attacks between skill casts.
- Use the three sequential Searing Onslaught slashes as separate Pyro attacks.
- Use Dawn for area damage and a temporary Pyro weapon infusion.
How his attacks work
Tempered Sword performs up to four consecutive claymore strikes. Its charged attack drains stamina over time for continuous slashes and ends with a stronger slash; plunging attacks deal damage along the path and area damage on impact. Searing Onslaught is a forward Pyro slash that can be cast consecutively up to three times; if you do not cast again within a short period, it enters cooldown. Its listed cooldown is 10 seconds. This gives Diluc both regular claymore attacks and a skill that can be divided into several close-together attacks rather than one single activation.
Burst and infusion
Dawn deals Pyro damage around Diluc and knocks nearby opponents back, then sends a Phoenix forward through opponents before it explodes in area Pyro damage. The burst costs 40 Energy, has a 12-second cooldown, and infuses his weapon with Pyro for eight seconds. That infusion makes the burst relevant to his following normal attacks, rather than being only an opening hit. Blessing of Phoenix extends the infusion by four seconds and grants 20% Pyro damage bonus during the effect. The supplied descriptions do not state how the infusion interacts with other effects, so judge it by the combat conditions you actually use.
Investment priorities
For an on-field pattern that uses all parts of his kit, Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst all contribute: the first improves ordinary claymore attacks, the second improves the repeatable Pyro slashes, and the third improves Dawn. If resources are limited, prioritize the parts you actually use most often rather than treating every talent as equally important. Each combat talent can be raised to level 10. The listed level 9-to-10 example costs 700,000 Mora, 16 Philosophies of Resistance, 12 Lieutenant’s Insignia, two Dvalin’s Plume, and one Crown of Insight. His crafting passive refunds 15% of ore used when crafting claymore-type weapons; it is a crafting benefit, not a combat stat.
Comparison and handling notes
Gaming and Dehya are also Pyro claymore characters, while Mavuika shares the Pyro element and claymore weapon. Those shared traits alone do not show that their attack patterns or roles match Diluc’s. Diluc’s charged attack is stamina-based and sustained, while his skill has a limited three-cast sequence and his burst supplies the stated infusion. Keep these modes distinct when choosing which talents to improve or deciding how much field time to give him.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The charged attack continuously consumes stamina; it is a distinct option from his skill and burst pattern.
- Dawn’s knockback can move nearby opponents away before the Phoenix travels forward.
- The burst’s weapon infusion lasts eight seconds before its passive extension.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Searing Onslaught is a single slash; it can be cast three times before the cooldown begins.
- Ignoring the eight-second infusion window after Dawn when planning to use his normal attacks.
- Treating the ore refund passive as a combat improvement; it applies when crafting claymore-type weapons.
