Shield and Night Star conditions
Nights of Formal Focus deploys a shield for 12 seconds and has a 12-second cooldown at the listed talent level. Shield absorption scales with Layla's Max HP, with 250% effectiveness against Cryo damage. While active, the shield generates one Night Star every 1.5 seconds. An Elemental Skill used by a character protected by the shield creates two more, no more often than once every 0.3 seconds. At four stars and nearby opponents, they become sequential homing Shooting Stars. Stars disappear if the shield ends or is destroyed, but a wave already firing continues until complete; new stars cannot form until the previous wave finishes.
Burst and shield strengthening
Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker creates a 12-second field that fires Cryo slugs. Each hit gives one Night Star to nearby Curtains of Slumber, at most once every 0.5 seconds per shield. The burst cooldown is 12 seconds and its Energy cost is 40 at the listed talent level. While the shield is active, each Night Star gained increases the protected character's Shield Strength by 6%, up to four stacks; this persists until the shield disappears. Her Shooting Star damage also gains an increase equal to 1.5% of Layla's Max HP.
Investment and practical limits
If you mainly want shielding, the skill is the direct talent to consider because it creates the shield and Night Star system; burst investment is conditional on using its field and extra star generation. Her ordinary sword attacks are a separate damage mode. The shield's HP scaling and Shooting Star HP bonus make Max HP relevant to both defense and that damage increase. Each combat talent can be raised to level 10; the supplied level 9-to-10 example costs 700,000 Mora, materials, a Mirror of Mushin, and a Crown of Insight. Layla also has a 10% chance to receive double Character Talent Materials when crafting them.
Limits and alternatives
Night Stars are tied to an active shield and disappear if it ends or breaks, except for shots already in flight. Skirk and Eula are Cryo sword or claymore users, while Citlali is a Cryo catalyst user; these tags do not establish that they provide Layla's shield and Night Star effects.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Night Star generation and shield-strength stacks require the shield to remain active.
- A full four-star wave must finish firing before new stars can be created.
- The burst requires 40 Energy, even though its cooldown matches the shield's listed duration.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming shield-generated Night Stars persist after the shield ends or is destroyed.
- Expecting a new wave of stars before the current Shooting Stars finish firing.
- Assuming the burst's Night Star generation bypasses its per-shield 0.5-second limit.

Nights of Formal Focus · Elemental skill
Puts forth a shield known as the Curtain of Slumber, dealing AoE Cryo DMG.
The Curtain of Slumber's DMG Absorption is based on Layla's Max HP and absorbs Cryo DMG with 250% effectiveness. When the shield is deployed, Layla will have Cryo applied to her briefly.
Night Stars and Shooting Stars
While the Curtain of Slumber is active, it will create 1 Night Star that will be attached to it every 1.5s. When a character protected by this shield uses an Elemental Skill, 2 Night Stars will be created. Night Stars can be created once every 0.3s in this way. A maximum of 4 Night Stars can be accumulated at any one time.
Once the Curtain of Slumber has accumulated 4 Night Stars and there are opponents nearby, these Night Stars will transform into homing Shooting Stars that will be fired off in sequence, dealing Cryo DMG to any opponents hit.
If the Curtain of Slumber's duration ends or it is destroyed, the Night Stars will disappear. If they are already being fired off as Shooting Stars, these Shooting Stars will last until this wave of shots ends.
New Night Stars cannot be created until the previous wave of Shooting Stars has been fired completely.

Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker · Elemental burst
Unleashes a Celestial Dreamsphere that constantly fires Starlight Slugs at opponents within its AoE, dealing Cryo DMG.
When a Starlight Slug hits, it will generate 1 Night Star for nearby Curtains of Slumber. Each Curtain of Slumber can gain 1 Night Star this way every 0.5s.

Like Nascent Light
While the Curtain of Slumber is active, the Deep Sleep effect will activate each time the Curtain gains 1 Night Star:
·The Shield Strength of a character under the effect of the Curtain of Slumber increases by 6%.
·This effect can have a maximum of 4 stacks and persists until the Curtain of Slumber disappears.
Sweet Slumber Undisturbed
The DMG dealt by the Shooting Stars fired by Nights of Formal Focus is increased by 1.5% of Layla's Max HP.
Shadowy Dream-Signs
When Layla crafts Character Talent Materials, she has a 10% chance to receive double the product.
