Shenhe

Cryo support and damage amplifier

Released Jan 5, 2022

Shenhe supports Cryo damage through Icy Quills that add damage based on her current ATK, plus a Burst field that reduces enemy Cryo and Physical RES. Use her when party members can deal repeated Cryo hits and benefit from the quill quota, field debuffs, or her attack-type-specific bonus.

Understand Shenhe

Useful when…

  • Adding ATK-based damage to Cryo hits from party members
  • Reducing Cryo and Physical resistance in a Burst field
  • Supporting Cryo skill, Burst, Normal, Charged, or Plunging damage
  • Expedition rewards in Liyue

Icy Quills: trigger rules and press versus hold

Spring Spirit Summoning grants nearby party members Icy Quills and deals Cryo damage. When a party member's Normal, Charged, or Plunging Attack, Skill, or Burst deals Cryo damage, the hit gains additional damage based on Shenhe's current ATK. Pressing lasts 10 seconds and provides five triggers; holding lasts 15 seconds and provides seven. The trigger quota is calculated independently for each party member. If one Cryo damage instance hits multiple opponents, it uses multiple triggers according to the number of opponents hit. That means multi-target hits can spend an individual character's quota faster than a single-target hit. Press has a 10-second cooldown, while Hold has a 15-second cooldown. Choose the mode for the timing and number of triggers needed, rather than treating Hold as an unconditional upgrade: it lasts longer and grants more triggers, with a longer cooldown.

Burst field and party bonuses

Divine Maiden's Deliverance deals area Cryo damage, then creates a field lasting 12 seconds on a 20-second cooldown. Enemies in it have Cryo and Physical RES decreased, and the field deals periodic Cryo damage. Deific Embrace grants an active character inside the field 15% Cryo DMG Bonus. A second passive adds a different benefit after Spring Spirit Summoning: Press increases party Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst damage by 15% for 10 seconds, while Hold increases Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attack damage by 15% for 15 seconds. These conditional bonuses make the skill mode relevant to the damage types the party will use next. For investment, raise the skill when the Icy Quill additions are central; raise the Burst when its field damage, resistance reductions, and active-character bonus matter. Normal attacks are a distinct track and are not the core of these support effects.

Limitations and sensible use

Icy Quill additional damage is based on Shenhe's current ATK, so its value depends on her ATK when the quills are applied and the number of eligible Cryo hits before the quota or duration expires. The Burst field's resistance reductions and Cryo damage bonus require enemies and the active character to be within the field, respectively. Her utility is therefore most direct when the party can capitalize on Cryo damage; the field also reduces Physical RES, but does not itself establish a general physical-damage buff. The expedition passive gives 25% more rewards when Shenhe is dispatched on a 20-hour Liyue Expedition.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Hold grants a longer duration and two more Icy Quill triggers, but has a longer cooldown than Press.
  • Multi-target Cryo hits can consume multiple quill triggers for the party member who hits those targets.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Ignoring that one Cryo hit against several opponents can spend several Icy Quill triggers.
  • Choosing Press or Hold without considering the different duration, trigger quota, cooldown, and follow-up damage type.
  • Assuming the field benefits characters who are outside it or that its Physical RES reduction is a general damage bonus.

Icy Quill
When Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skills, and Elemental Bursts deal Cryo DMG to opponents, the DMG dealt is increased based on Shenhe's current ATK.

The Icy Quill's effects will be cleared once its duration ends or after being triggered a certain number of times. When held rather than pressed, the Icy Quill's effect lasts longer and can be triggered more times.
When one Cryo DMG instance strikes multiple opponents, the effect is triggered multiple times based on the number of opponents hit. The number of times the effect is triggered is calculated independently for each party member with the Icy Quill.
