Pyro shield support with Normal Attack-triggered follow-up damage
Released Nov 2, 2021
Thoma provides a shield that can be reinforced and refreshed, then uses his Burst to create additional barriers when the active character uses Normal Attacks. Consider him when your on-field character regularly uses Normal Attacks and you want a shield that builds through repeated applications. His shield scales from his Max HP, while his Burst has an 80 Energy cost.

Thoma GUIDE
Understand Thoma
Useful when…
Protecting an active character with a shield that stacks remaining absorption when reapplied.
Triggering Fiery Collapse and new barriers through the active character’s Normal Attacks.
Fishing in Inazuma for a chance at a double catch.
How do the barriers and Burst work?
His Skill vaults forward with a Pyro kick, creates a Blazing Barrier, and applies Pyro to Thoma himself when cast. Barrier absorption scales with his Max HP and absorbs Pyro damage 250% more effectively. When a new barrier is obtained, its remaining absorption stacks with the existing barrier and its duration refreshes, subject to a maximum absorption cap expressed as a percentage of Thoma’s Max HP. His Burst deals area Pyro damage and creates Scorching Ooyoroi. While it is active, the active character’s Normal Attacks trigger Fiery Collapse, an area Pyro hit and another Blazing Barrier, at most once per second. Burst-generated barriers have the same stated traits as Skill barriers, except for the amount they absorb. If Thoma falls, Scorching Ooyoroi ends. [Source](evidence)
When should you consider him?
His follow-up requires the active character to use Normal Attacks, so he fits best in situations where those attacks are already part of your play. Repeated triggers can refresh and stack barrier absorption, helping maintain protection during the Burst window. His Skill is an additional barrier source, but its self-applied Pyro is a real condition to account for. Outside combat, his fishing passive gives a 20% chance of a double catch when fishing successfully in Inazuma. [Source](evidence)
What is sensible to improve?
The Skill and Burst both create barriers, so their talent levels are relevant when barrier strength is your reason for using him. Burst investment also affects Fiery Collapse damage. His passive adds 2.2% of Thoma’s Max HP to Fiery Collapse damage, giving HP a stated relationship to both barrier absorption and that damage bonus. The listed ascension materials include Agnidus Agate, Fluorescent Fungus, Insignias, and Smoldering Pearl at later stages. A listed level 9-to-10 combat talent step costs 700,000 Mora, 16 Philosophies of Transience, 12 Golden Raven Insignias, two Hellfire Butterflies, and a Crown of Insight; invest selectively based on whether shielding or Burst damage is the priority. [Source](evidence)
What limits or mistakes matter?
Fiery Collapse is triggered by Normal Attacks, not by any attack or action. Its one-second trigger limit means attack frequency alone cannot remove that limit. Barrier stacking does not make absorption unlimited: the shield has a Max HP-based cap. Also distinguish his Skill barrier from Burst-created barriers when considering their individual absorption amounts.
Limitations and tradeoffs
Barrier refreshes depend on repeated applications, and Burst applications depend on active-character Normal Attacks.
His Skill applies Pyro to himself; barrier absorption has a stated cap tied to Max HP.
His Burst costs 80 Energy.
Common mistakes to avoid
Expecting Fiery Collapse to trigger from charged attacks or other actions without a Normal Attack.
Assuming repeated barriers bypass the stated Max HP-based absorption cap.
Ignoring the Skill’s self-applied Pyro when choosing when to cast it.

Blazing Blessing · Elemental skill
Thoma vaults forward with his polearm and delivers a flame-filled flying kick that deals AoE Pyro DMG, while also summoning a defensive Blazing Barrier. Crimson Ooyoroi · Elemental burst
Thoma spins his polearm, slicing at his foes with roaring flames that deal AoE Pyro DMG and weave themselves into a Scorching Ooyoroi.
Scorching Ooyoroi While Scorching Ooyoroi is in effect, the active character's Normal Attacks will trigger Fiery Collapse, dealing AoE Pyro DMG and summoning a Blazing Barrier. Fiery Collapse can be triggered once every 1s.
Except for the amount of DMG they can absorb, the Blazing Barriers created in this way are identical to those created by Thoma's Elemental Skill, Blazing Blessing: ·Absorbs Pyro DMG 250% more effectively. ·When a new Blazing Barrier is obtained, the remaining DMG Absorption of an existing Blazing Barrier will stack and its duration will be refreshed.
The maximum DMG Absorption of the Blazing Barrier will not exceed a certain percentage of Thoma's Max HP.
If Thoma falls, the effects of Scorching Ooyoroi will be cleared.
