Understand Blackcliff Longsword
Useful when…
- Use when a sword wielder benefits from CRIT DMG and can gain ATK stacks by defeating opponents.
- Consider it in encounters with multiple opponents, where successive defeats can build up to three stacks.
What does the passive do?
At refinement 1, defeating an opponent grants 12% ATK for 30 seconds. It can stack up to three times, and each stack's duration is independent. Refinements raise the ATK amount per stack to 15%, 18%, 21%, and 24%. The trigger is a defeat, not simply dealing damage.
When should a player consider it?
The CRIT DMG secondary stat is available regardless of the passive trigger. The ATK stacks depend on defeating opponents, so they can be built during encounters that produce defeats but should not be assumed in a fight without one. Independent timers also mean stacks can expire at different times. Account for both the opponent count and the timing of defeats when considering the passive's contribution.
What does upgrading change?
The ascension track reaches stage 6; examples give costs at stages 0→1, 3→4, and 5→6. Refinement consumes one duplicate R1 sword per step plus Mora and raises the ATK increase per stack. The listed refinement effect does not change its 30-second duration, three-stack maximum, or independent timers.
How do the listed sword alternatives differ?
Absolution has CRIT DMG and a damage increase tied to increases in Bond of Life value. Amenoma Kageuchi has ATK as its secondary stat and restores Energy after Skill-generated Succession Seeds are consumed by a Burst. Aquila Favonia has Physical DMG Bonus, an ATK increase, and a damage-triggered effect that restores HP and deals area damage. These are different stat profiles and conditions; evaluate them against the wielder's needs rather than equating them with Blackcliff's defeat-triggered stacks.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The passive does not activate without defeating an opponent.
- Each stack lasts 30 seconds on its own timer.
- Refinement requires copies to improve the per-stack ATK amount.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming attacks alone activate the ATK increase.
- Treating the three stacks as one shared timer.
- Counting on maximum stacks in an encounter that does not provide enough defeat triggers.
