Understand Calamity of Eshu
Useful when…
- A sword wielder who regularly uses Normal or Charged Attacks while protected by a Shield.
- A shielded attack build that can use both the passive's DMG and CRIT Rate increases.
What does the shield condition provide?
The weapon has 43.7 base ATK and an ATK secondary stat. At R1, while characters are protected by a Shield, Normal and Charged Attack DMG increases by 20% and Normal and Charged Attack CRIT Rate increases by 8%. At R5, these bonuses are 40% and 16%. The weapon description does not grant either bonus without Shield protection.
When should you consider it?
Its passive fits a wielder whose damage includes Normal and Charged Attacks and who can maintain Shield protection. It does not list a boost to Skill, Burst, or other damage modes, so assess it around those two attack types. The ATK secondary stat remains part of the weapon's profile even when the passive condition is unmet.
How much does refinement change?
Ascension advances the weapon through six stages. Refinement uses a Shuttle of Odara and Mora, raising the shielded Normal and Charged Attack bonuses from 20% DMG and 8% CRIT Rate at R1 to 40% and 16% at R5. Both gains depend on Shield protection and apply to the named attack modes.
How do the listed swords differ?
Absolution grants CRIT DMG and increases the wielder's DMG when the value of a Bond of Life increases. Amenoma Kageuchi has ATK and restores Energy after the wielder uses a Burst, based on Skill-generated seeds. Aquila Favonia has Physical DMG Bonus and ATK; taking damage can trigger healing and nearby damage on a 15-second cooldown. Each has distinct conditions and benefits from Calamity of Eshu's Shield-gated Normal and Charged Attack bonuses.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The passive requires Shield protection.
- Only Normal and Charged Attacks receive the stated DMG and CRIT Rate bonuses.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a Shield activates the passive for every damage mode; the listed bonuses cover only Normal and Charged Attacks.
- Counting the passive while characters are not protected by a Shield.
