Understand Clash of Kings
Useful when…
- Consider it for a damage-focused Catalyst user who benefits from both ATK and Elemental Mastery and can trigger the Skill effect reliably.
- Its Charged Attack extension can help a character maintain the temporary buff for longer, subject to the extension cap.
What does the passive do?
Using an Elemental Skill activates Laws of the Board for 6 seconds. At R1 it raises the wielder's ATK by 20% and Elemental Mastery by 100; it cannot stack and can trigger once every 12 seconds. Hitting an opponent with a Charged Attack while the effect is active extends its duration by 6 seconds, up to 6 seconds of extension in total. This makes Skill timing and landing a Charged Attack during the buff central to getting more than the initial window.
Who can make use of it?
The mixed ATK and Elemental Mastery bonuses suit a Catalyst damage build only when both stats contribute to the character's damage. The weapon's CRIT Rate secondary stat adds a separate offensive stat, while its passive does not increase Burst or Skill damage directly by name; it supplies stats that may benefit damage based on those stats. A user who rarely uses Charged Attacks can still activate the initial buff but will not extend it through the listed condition.
What should be improved first?
Ascension raises the weapon through six stages; the listed examples show Mora and material costs at the first, fourth, and sixth stages. Refinement consumes another R1 copy and Mora. From R1 to R5, the Skill buff rises from 20% to 40% ATK and from 100 to 200 Elemental Mastery, while its duration, trigger interval, and extension cap remain the same. Refinement is most relevant when the wielder consistently uses both stats; otherwise, investing in levels before sacrificing duplicate copies keeps the weapon's base contribution available without requiring those copies.
How does it compare with other Catalysts?
A Thousand Floating Dreams instead builds bonuses from the elemental types of other party members and grants nearby party members Elemental Mastery, so it has a different party-composition and support profile. Angelos' Heptades grants an ATK increase and, after its wielder creates a Shield, a timed party damage increase and Energy restoration; those effects depend on Shield creation. These are not direct substitutes for Clash of Kings' Skill-triggered personal ATK and Elemental Mastery window.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The passive is temporary, has a 12-second trigger interval, and needs an Elemental Skill to activate.
- The extra duration requires a Charged Attack hit during the active effect and is capped at 6 additional seconds.
- Its mixed ATK and Elemental Mastery value depends on the wielder benefiting from both stats.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Charged Attacks to extend the buff without hitting an opponent while it is active.
- Treating the passive as continuously active despite its 6-second duration and once-per-12-second trigger limit.
- Refining it without checking whether the wielder benefits from both ATK and Elemental Mastery.
