Understand Ferrous Shadow
Useful when…
- Charged-attack damage while the wielder is below the HP threshold.
- A low-rarity claymore option when its HP stat and interruption resistance suit the character’s combat pattern.
What triggers its effect?
At refinement 1, the wielder gains 30% charged-attack DMG and increased resistance to interruption while HP is below 70%. Refining raises the bonus to 50% and the threshold to below 90% at refinement 5. The threshold is a condition, so the damage bonus is unavailable while HP is at or above it. The weapon’s secondary stat is HP, but the supplied effect does not say that HP itself increases charged-attack damage.
Who can make use of it?
Its effect is relevant to a claymore wielder whose damage plan includes charged attacks. The interruption resistance is useful when incoming hits would otherwise disrupt those attacks. It does not provide a stated bonus to normal attacks, skills, bursts, or other charged-attack-independent damage, so its value depends on how much of the character’s combat damage comes from charged attacks.
How much should you invest?
Weapon ascension raises the weapon through stages and is the direct progression route shown for its base weapon investment. Refinement consumes another Ferrous Shadow copy and Mora; the stated examples include one copy and 500 Mora for refinement 1 to 2, and one copy and 4,000 Mora for 4 to 5. Refinement improves both the HP threshold and charged-attack bonus, so prioritize it when you can spare copies and the wielder reliably uses the effect. Ascension materials include Decarabian’s Tower materials, horns, and Whopperflower Nectar at the listed early step.
What are its limits?
The effect depends on remaining below a specific HP threshold, which may not fit a setup that keeps the wielder’s HP high. It also only strengthens charged attacks; do not assume its interruption resistance prevents damage or protects other actions. The listed alternatives have different conditions: the Mega Magic Sword supplies ATK and Energy Recharge, while the two five-star candidates reward charged-attack reaction hits or Skill/Burst use and, for one, Nightsoul’s Blessing. Those effects do not make them direct replacements for Ferrous Shadow’s low-HP charged-attack niche.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its charged-attack bonus requires low HP, and its HP secondary stat does not itself satisfy that condition.
- Its damage effect is narrow: it does not state bonuses for other attack types or abilities.
- Refinement consumes duplicate copies, so its gains compete with keeping another copy.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the charged-attack bonus while HP is at or above the refinement’s threshold.
- Treating increased interruption resistance as damage prevention or protection for non-charged attacks.
- Refining away a copy before deciding whether another claymore user could use it.
