Understand Frostbearer
Useful when…
- Use Normal or Charged Attacks to trigger the Everfrost Icicle chance, which can occur once every 10 seconds.
- Against Cryo-affected opponents, the icicle’s listed ATK multiplier is higher than against other targets.
How the icicle works
The weapon has 42.40 Base ATK and ATK as its secondary stat. Hitting an opponent with a Normal or Charged Attack has a 60% chance at Refinement 1 to form and drop an Everfrost Icicle above them. It deals area damage equal to 80% of ATK, or 200% of ATK if the opponent is affected by Cryo. The effect can occur once every 10 seconds. At Refinement 5, the chance reaches 100%, and the damage becomes 140% of ATK or 360% against a Cryo-affected opponent.
Using the condition
The Cryo bonus applies when the opponent is affected by Cryo at the time of the icicle effect. Normal and Charged Attack hits are the stated triggers; Skill or Burst use alone is not listed as a trigger. The effect is area damage, so its output is tied to ATK and the target’s Cryo status rather than a separate support buff.
Investment and alternatives
Ascension uses six stages, with listed example costs in Mora and weapon materials. Refinement consumes duplicate Frostbearer copies and Mora; it raises the trigger chance and both damage multipliers. At Refinement 5, triggering becomes certain on a qualifying hit, though the effect still has its once-per-10-seconds limit. A Thousand Floating Dreams instead grants party-composition-dependent Elemental Mastery and Elemental DMG bonuses to its wielder, plus Elemental Mastery to nearby allies. Angelos’ Heptades requires Shield creation to grant active-party damage and Energy effects, with additional Hexerei: Secret Rite conditions. Apprentice’s Notes is a one-star catalyst with no secondary stat listed. These are distinct stat and trigger profiles, not direct equivalents to Frostbearer’s icicle.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The icicle has a 10-second trigger limit, and its higher multiplier depends on the target being affected by Cryo.
- Before Refinement 5, a qualifying Normal or Charged Attack hit can still fail to produce the icicle because the chance is below 100%.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the Cryo-target multiplier when the opponent is not affected by Cryo.
- Assuming every attack can trigger an icicle; the effect is limited to once every 10 seconds.
