Light of Foliar Incision

CRIT DMG sword that rewards Elemental Normal Attacks with an EM-scaled Normal and Skill damage effect.

Released Jan 18, 2023

Light of Foliar Incision is a five-star Sword with CRIT DMG as its secondary stat and a small CRIT Rate increase. After Normal Attacks deal Elemental DMG, Foliar Incision increases Normal Attack and Elemental Skill damage based on Elemental Mastery. Consider it for a character who can meet that trigger and make use of both listed attack types.

Understand Light of Foliar Incision

Useful when…

  • A sword user who can make Normal Attacks deal Elemental DMG
  • A build with Elemental Mastery that contributes to the passive’s damage increase
  • Characters whose damage includes Normal Attacks and Elemental Skills

How does Foliar Incision activate?

At Refinement 1, CRIT Rate increases by 4%. When Normal Attacks deal Elemental DMG, Foliar Incision is obtained and increases damage from Normal Attacks and Elemental Skills by an amount equal to 120% of Elemental Mastery. It ends after 28 damage instances or 12 seconds, and can be obtained once every 12 seconds. Refinement 5 raises the CRIT Rate increase to 8% and the EM multiplier to 240%; the instance limit, duration, and 12-second acquisition interval remain.

Who can use its condition?

The trigger explicitly requires Normal Attacks to deal Elemental DMG, so an attack pattern that does not meet that condition cannot activate Foliar Incision. Its benefit then applies to Normal Attack and Elemental Skill damage, not every damage source. Absolution instead increases CRIT DMG and rewards increases to Bond of Life value; Amenoma Kageuchi restores Energy after a Burst when Skills have created seeds. Those are distinct conditions and do not reproduce Foliar Incision’s EM-scaled attack bonus.

How should you invest?

Ascension improves the weapon’s base stats. Refinement increases the CRIT Rate and EM multiplier, but requires another copy. Because the main passive scales from EM and requires an Elemental Normal Attack trigger, refinement is most relevant when both features contribute to the wielder’s build. The supplied ascension examples list costs at stages 0–1, 3–4, and 5–6.

What can end the effect?

Foliar Incision ends after either 28 damage instances or 12 seconds, and cannot be obtained again until its 12-second interval permits it. Do not assume every hit receives the bonus if the instance limit has been reached. The effect names Normal Attacks and Elemental Skills; it does not specify Burst damage as a recipient.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • Requires a Normal Attack that deals Elemental DMG to activate.
  • The bonus scales with EM and applies to Normal Attacks and Skills only.
  • The effect ends after 28 damage instances or 12 seconds; refinement costs another copy.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Expecting Foliar Incision to activate without Elemental Normal Attack damage.
  • Applying its bonus to Burst damage or unrelated damage sources.
  • Ignoring the 28-instance limit when estimating how long the effect lasts.
