Understand Lightbearing Moonshard
Useful when…
- A sword user whose damage includes Lunar-Crystallize reactions
- A character who can time Skill use before the relevant reaction damage
- A build that can use the CRIT DMG secondary stat and DEF increase
What is boosted and when?
At Refinement 1, the weapon increases DEF by 20%. After the equipping character uses an Elemental Skill, damage inflicted by Lunar-Crystallize reactions increases by 64% for 5 seconds. Refinement 5 raises the DEF increase to 40% and the reaction damage increase to 128%; the 5-second condition remains. The bonus is specifically named for Lunar-Crystallize damage, not as a general increase to all damage.
Who should consider it?
The weapon is most relevant when the wielder can contribute Lunar-Crystallize reaction damage within the short window after using a Skill. The DEF increase and CRIT DMG secondary stat are separate from that reaction condition. Absolution instead offers CRIT DMG and a damage increase after Bond of Life value increases, while Amenoma Kageuchi uses Skills to build seeds for post-Burst Energy restoration. Those passives support other mechanics rather than the named Lunar-Crystallize bonus.
Investment tradeoffs
Ascension improves the weapon’s base stats. Refinement raises both the DEF increase and the Lunar-Crystallize damage percentage, but requires another copy. That investment matters most when the wielder can use the five-second reaction window consistently. The supplied ascension examples give costs at stages 0–1, 3–4, and 5–6.
What limits its use?
The reaction bonus lasts only 5 seconds after Skill use, so damage outside that window does not receive the stated increase. The passive does not say that any Elemental Skill damage itself is boosted. Do not assume the DEF increase makes the weapon’s reaction bonus general-purpose; the named reaction condition still determines where its distinctive damage effect applies.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The distinctive damage increase applies to Lunar-Crystallize reactions only.
- The reaction bonus lasts 5 seconds after a Skill.
- Refinement requires another copy.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the Lunar-Crystallize bonus as a general damage increase.
- Assuming the Skill itself triggers a damage bonus to all its damage types.
- Ignoring the five-second duration when timing reactions.
