Magic Guide

Early-game reaction catalyst

Released Sep 28, 2020

Magic Guide is a 3-star catalyst with Elemental Mastery and a conditional damage bonus against opponents affected by Hydro or Electro. It is most relevant when the wielder can benefit from Elemental Mastery and keep one of those statuses on targets.

Understand Magic Guide

Useful when…

  • Use as an accessible catalyst option when the wielder benefits from Elemental Mastery.
  • Consider it against targets that can remain affected by Hydro or Electro.

Effects and conditions

Magic Guide's passive increases damage against opponents affected by Hydro or Electro. It does not state a bonus against all opponents or all reactions. The bonus rises from 12% at refinement 1 to 24% at refinement 5; its Elemental Mastery secondary stat is separate from this target-status condition.

Choosing it for a character

The Elemental Mastery secondary stat can suit reaction-oriented use, while the passive only helps damage dealt to opponents with Hydro or Electro applied. A Thousand Floating Dreams also has Elemental Mastery, but adds party-dependent buffs to the wielder and nearby party members. Angelos' Heptades gives ATK and support effects after the wielder creates a shield, a different role and trigger. These alternatives have more specific conditions and should be judged by the character's actual damage and party setup.

Progression

Ascension is a six-stage track with selected material examples. Refinement uses a copy of Magic Guide and Mora, raising the conditional damage bonus by three percentage points per listed rank. Refinement is most relevant when Hydro or Electro status is consistently available on targets; otherwise the passive's improvement may not address the main limitation.

Common mistakes

Do not assume the passive works merely because the wielder deals Hydro or Electro damage; the condition is that the opponent is affected by Hydro or Electro. If the status is absent, the listed conditional damage bonus does not apply.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The damage passive depends on the opponent's Hydro or Electro status.
  • Its secondary stat is Elemental Mastery rather than ATK or CRIT.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing dealing Hydro or Electro damage with the opponent being affected by that element.
  • Applying the passive's bonus to targets without Hydro or Electro status.
