New Bough

Sword that builds short-lived ATK and Elemental Mastery stacks after Skill use and a subsequent hit.

Released Sep 23, 2026

New Bough is a four-star sword with CRIT DMG as its secondary stat. In its standard effect, using an Elemental Skill opens a 12-second window for attacks to build Verdant stacks, each granting ATK and Elemental Mastery. Its listed Radiance: Stellar Glimmer version changes the stack effect. Consider it when the wielder can land attacks soon after using a Skill and benefits from the relevant stats.

Understand New Bough

Useful when…

  • A character who can use an Elemental Skill, then hit an opponent within 12 seconds.
  • A wielder who can make use of ATK and Elemental Mastery, or the separate listed Stellar Glimmer effect.

Standard Verdant effect

Within 12 seconds after using an Elemental Skill, hitting an opponent grants Verdant: at R1, each stack gives 4% ATK and 20 Elemental Mastery. It lasts 6 seconds, can trigger once per second, and stacks up to three times. The effects can still trigger while the wielder is off-field. At R5, each stack gives 8% ATK and 40 Elemental Mastery.

The listed Radiance version

For Radiance: Stellar Glimmer, Verdant is changed: instead of the standard ATK and Elemental Mastery pair, it increases ATK and the wielder’s Stellar Glimmer reaction damage. At R1 that is 6% ATK and 8% Stellar Glimmer reaction DMG per listed effect; at R5 it is 12% ATK and 16% reaction DMG. Keep these listed effects distinct from the standard version when assessing the weapon.

Trigger timing and refinement

A Skill cast alone does not grant a stack: the wielder must hit an opponent after the Skill and within the 12-second window. Ascension progresses through stage 6. Refinement consumes a duplicate and raises the stack values in either listed effect, so its value depends on the wielder using the appropriate effect and maintaining its hit condition.

Alternative sword mechanics

Absolution has CRIT DMG and a damage increase triggered by increasing Bond of Life. Amenoma Kageuchi uses Skill casts to generate seeds that restore Energy after a Burst. Aquila Favonia adds ATK and has Physical DMG Bonus as its secondary stat, plus a damage-triggered heal and area hit. These alternatives offer distinct conditions rather than the post-Skill stack pattern of New Bough.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The standard stacks require a hit within 12 seconds after Skill use and last only 6 seconds.
  • The listed Radiance effect changes which stats the stacks provide.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Counting the Skill cast itself as a stack trigger without a subsequent hit.
  • Combining the standard Verdant values with the separate Radiance: Stellar Glimmer values.
