Understand Prototype Archaic
Useful when…
- Add a chance-based small-area hit through Normal or Charged Attack hits.
- Use its ATK secondary stat and ATK-scaled passive.
Stats and proc behavior
Prototype Archaic has 43.7349 base ATK and an ATK secondary stat. At Rank 1, a hit from a Normal or Charged Attack has a 50% chance to deal additional damage equal to 240% of ATK to opponents within a small area, and the effect can occur only once every 15 seconds. At Rank 5, the additional damage is 480% of ATK; the stated chance and time limit remain the same.
Using it in combat
The trigger is a hit from a Normal or Charged Attack. The additional hit is chance-based, affects opponents within a small area, and is limited to once every 15 seconds, so it is not guaranteed on every attack.
Ascension and refinement
Ascension progresses from stage 0 to 6, with listed cost examples at 0→1, 3→4, and 5→6. Refinement raises the proc’s ATK multiplier from 240% at Rank 1 to 480% at Rank 5; it does not change the stated 50% chance or 15-second limit. Each refinement step uses a duplicate copy.
Comparing claymore effects
The Ultimate Overlord’s Mega Magic Sword grants ATK bonuses, including a component based on the number of Melusines helped in Merusea Village. A Teaspoon of Transcendence boosts ATK and named reaction DMG after Charged Attack hits. A Thousand Blazing Suns grants a timed Skill or Burst buff that can be extended by Elemental Normal or Charged Attacks, with additional effects in Nightsoul’s Blessing. These weapons have different conditions and effects from Prototype Archaic’s chance-based, time-limited proc.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The extra hit has a 50% trigger chance.
- The effect can occur only once every 15 seconds.
- Refinement improves the hit multiplier but not the stated chance or time limit.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the extra hit on every Normal or Charged Attack.
- Assuming refinement changes the trigger chance or time limit.
- Treating the proc as a general Skill or Burst DMG bonus.
