Understand Redhorn Stonethresher
Useful when…
- A claymore wielder who deals substantial Normal or Charged Attack damage and benefits from DEF.
- A build where CRIT DMG and additional DEF are useful to the wielder.
How DEF contributes
At R1, Redhorn increases DEF by 28% and increases Normal and Charged Attack DMG by 40% of DEF. At R5, those figures rise to 56% DEF and 80% of DEF. In practical terms, the weapon adds DEF, then bases its attack damage bonus on the wielder’s DEF; the bonus applies to the named attack types. It also has CRIT DMG as its secondary stat.
Who should consider it
Consider Redhorn when the wielder can make use of both CRIT DMG and DEF, and when Normal or Charged Attacks account for relevant damage. Its conversion means DEF contributes offensively for these attacks, but the input does not say that Skill, Burst, or other damage receives the same bonus. It is therefore not a universal claymore buff.
Investment and comparisons
Ascension advances the weapon through stages 0–6. Refinement increases both the DEF increase and the proportion of DEF converted into Normal and Charged Attack DMG; each refinement consumes another copy and Mora. The Ultimate Overlord's Mega Magic Sword provides ATK and Energy Recharge rather than DEF conversion. A Teaspoon of Transcendence grants ATK and a reaction bonus specifically after Charged Attack hits, while A Thousand Blazing Suns triggers a temporary ATK and CRIT DMG effect from Skill or Burst use. These alternatives have different stats and conditions; none duplicates Redhorn’s DEF-based attack bonus.
Damage-type limitation
The weapon explicitly names Normal and Charged Attack DMG. Do not assume its DEF conversion increases every source of damage from the wielder. Refining raises the listed percentages but does not change which attack types are named.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Its DEF-to-damage effect is limited to Normal and Charged Attack DMG.
- Refinement consumes duplicate 5-star copies for a higher DEF bonus and conversion rate.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying the DEF conversion to Skill or Burst damage without an explicit basis.
- Treating the weapon’s DEF increase as a general damage bonus for every attack type.
