Understand Starcaller's Watch
Useful when…
- Use on a catalyst wielder who can create a shield to activate Mirror of Night.
- Consider it when the active attacker fights near opponents and can use the timed buff.
Effect and trigger
At R1, the weapon grants 100 Elemental Mastery. Within 15 seconds after the wielder creates a shield, Mirror of Night can activate, increasing the current active party member’s damage against nearby opponents by 28%. It can be gained once every 14 seconds. The shield creation is the trigger; simply having a shield already does not establish that the effect has activated.
Practical fit
The buff is aimed at whoever is currently active, so it can support a switched-in attacker rather than only the catalyst wielder. Its stated range is nearby opponents, making it less useful when enemies are not close to the active character. A Thousand Floating Dreams instead gives party-composition-dependent EM or elemental damage bonuses and a separate EM increase to nearby party members; it does not share this shield trigger.
Investment and limits
Ascension raises weapon level using materials and Mora. Refinement consumes a duplicate and Mora, increasing both the EM stat and Mirror of Night’s damage increase. Since the buff is limited by a 14-second trigger interval, weigh refinement copies against the value of keeping another weapon. Apprentice’s Notes is a low-rarity catalyst with no secondary stat or listed refinement effect, not a like-for-like support option.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Requires the wielder to create a shield to trigger its party damage effect.
- The damage increase applies to the current active member and nearby opponents, with a 14-second trigger interval.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming an existing shield automatically triggers Mirror of Night.
- Expecting the damage increase to benefit off-field party members or distant opponents.
