Understand The Flute
Useful when…
- A sword wielder who regularly lands Normal or Charged Attack hits.
- A character whose ATK supports both ordinary attacks and the weapon's periodic nearby damage.
How do Harmonics trigger damage?
A Normal or Charged Attack hit grants a Harmonic, with at most one gained every 0.5 seconds. After five Harmonics, the weapon deals 100% of ATK as damage to surrounding opponents at R1, rising to 200% at R5. Harmonics last up to 30 seconds. The effect is a separate nearby damage event; it is not described as adding that percentage to each attack.
Who can build Harmonics reliably?
The trigger requires hits from Normal or Charged Attacks, so a wielder who uses those attacks can build toward the five-Harmonic effect. Its ATK secondary stat supports the ATK-based damage coefficient. A character whose damage comes mainly from Skills or Bursts should not expect those sources to build Harmonics under the stated effect.
What should be improved first?
Ascension uses the listed Mora and materials. Refinement raises the ATK damage of the five-Harmonic event from 100% to 200%; it does not change the five-stack requirement or 0.5-second gain limit in the listed effect. Refinement consumes another copy, so weigh the stronger periodic hit against retaining a second sword.
How do alternatives differ?
Absolution gives CRIT DMG and a damage bonus tied to increasing Bond of Life. Amenoma Kageuchi gives ATK and can restore Energy after a Burst by spending Skill-generated seeds. Aquila Favonia has ATK and Physical DMG Bonus, with a damage and healing effect triggered by taking damage. These have different triggers from The Flute's Normal and Charged Attack hit counter.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The additional damage requires five Normal or Charged Attack hit triggers.
- Only one Harmonic can be gained every 0.5 seconds.
- Refinement requires duplicate copies.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the listed ATK percentage as a bonus applied to every Normal or Charged Attack.
- Assuming Skill or Burst hits grant Harmonics.
