Waveriding Whirl

HP catalyst with swimming utility

Released Nov 20, 2024

Waveriding Whirl reduces swimming Stamina use and grants temporary Max HP after its wielder uses an Elemental Skill. Consider it for an HP-scaling catalyst user, especially when the party includes Hydro characters; its exploration benefit is separate from its combat buff.

Waveriding Whirl GUIDE

Understand Waveriding Whirl

Useful when…

  • An HP-scaling catalyst user who can trigger the Skill condition
  • Swimming exploration where reduced Stamina consumption is useful

Combat effect and party condition

After using an Elemental Skill, the wielder gains Max HP for 10 seconds, with a 15-second trigger interval. At R1, the base increase is 20%, plus 12% for each Hydro character in the party, up to 24% from that party condition. The base and Hydro portions are distinct. Refinement raises these percentages, while the cap on the Hydro portion also rises.

Exploration and build fit

The weapon reduces swimming Stamina consumption by 15%, independent of the temporary Skill-triggered HP effect. Its Energy Recharge secondary stat is distinct from the HP passive. A Thousand Floating Dreams is Elemental Mastery-focused with party Elemental Mastery support, while Angelos' Heptades grants its party damage effect after its wielder creates a shield; neither has Waveriding Whirl's swimming benefit or the same HP condition.

Upgrading and caveats

Ascension covers six stages. Refinement consumes a duplicate and Mora, improving the Skill-triggered HP values. Do not count the additional HP without using the Elemental Skill, and do not exceed the stated Hydro-character cap when calculating the party contribution.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The combat HP increase is temporary and requires an Elemental Skill.
  • The swimming benefit is useful for exploration but does not itself improve combat damage.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating the Hydro contribution as unlimited; it is capped.
  • Confusing the permanent swimming Stamina reduction with the timed HP effect.
