Understand Yun Jin
Useful when…
- Supporting a party member whose damage relies on Normal Attacks.
- Adding a counterattack and brief protection with her hold Skill.
- Using her Adventure-food passive when cooking.
What does her Burst do?
Cliffbreaker's Banner deals area Geo damage and grants nearby party members Flying Cloud Flag Formation. When a Normal Attack deals damage, the hit gains bonus damage based on Yun Jin’s current DEF. The effect lasts 12 seconds at the listed level-one parameters and ends when its duration expires or its trigger quota is used up. Its listed quota is 30 triggers per party member; a Normal Attack that hits multiple opponents can consume multiple triggers, and each party member tracks their own quota. Her passive further increases the Normal Attack bonus according to how many distinct Elemental Types are in the party, with the largest listed increase at four types. This makes her a targeted Normal Attack support, not a general damage buffer.
When are her Skill and passives useful?
Opening Flourish deals Geo damage. Holding it creates a shield whose absorption scales with Yun Jin’s Max HP and has 150% effectiveness against all Elemental and Physical DMG. The shield lasts only until the Skill attack is released, its duration ends, or it breaks; the attack’s damage scales with DEF, and charging longer reaches Level 2. Her timing passive makes a hit received during the Skill trigger the Level 2 charged form, so a deliberate counter can combine defense and a stronger strike. Her cooking passive gives a 12% chance to double Adventure-effect food after a Perfect Cook.
What should you invest in?
If you use her to support Normal Attacks, prioritize the Burst because its bonus is the defining party effect and scales from DEF. The Skill is a secondary investment if you want its shield and counter damage. Her own Normal Attack talent is a lower priority when she is mainly providing the Burst effect. Ascension requires Geo gems, Glaze Lilies, and masks; example talent upgrades use Diligence books, masks, Mora, and at the final listed step a Crown of Insight and Ashen Heart. These are investment considerations, not required breakpoints.
What limits the support?
The Burst’s bonus applies when Normal Attack DMG is dealt, so it does not directly add to Charged or Plunging Attack damage. Its duration and trigger quota can run out, and multi-target Normal Attacks consume triggers according to the number of opponents hit. Her Skill shield is temporary and tied to the Skill action; it is not a persistent shield. Zhongli, Illuga, and Chiori are listed Geo candidates, but their shared element or weapon does not establish that they provide Yun Jin’s Normal Attack bonus.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Her signature support effect is specifically tied to Normal Attack damage, so value falls when the main damage source is Charged Attacks, Plunging Attacks, or other damage.
- The Skill’s shield scales with Max HP while its counterattack scales with DEF, so investing in one does not automatically maximize both effects.
- The Burst has a 60 Energy cost and 15-second cooldown at the listed parameters, alongside a 12-second duration.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Flying Cloud Flag Formation to boost Charged or Plunging Attacks.
- Ignoring that a hit against multiple opponents can consume multiple Burst triggers.
- Treating the hold Skill shield as protection that remains after the Skill attack ends.
