Understand Destiny's Threads Forewoven
Useful when…
- A DEF-focused wearer who wants personal damage as well as Effect RES.
- A build with enough DEF to reach a meaningful portion of the Light Cone’s damage cap.
How does DEF convert to damage?
At S1, the wearer gains 12% Effect RES and 0.8% damage for every 100 DEF, capped at 32% damage. At S5, it grants 20% Effect RES and 1.2% damage per 100 DEF, capped at 48%. In practical terms, the damage bonus rises in 100-DEF increments until it reaches the listed maximum; DEF beyond the cap does not add more damage from this effect.
When does it fit?
Consider it when DEF is already an important stat for the wearer and personal damage is useful. It does not grant DEF itself, so reaching its damage cap depends on the wearer’s other stats and equipment. Amber directly increases DEF, with an additional DEF increase below 50% HP. Concert for Two also grants DEF and adds wearer damage for each on-field character with a Shield. Day One of My New Life grants DEF and team All-Type RES after entering battle, a different defensive emphasis.
How should I invest?
Promotion raises the Light Cone’s level. Superimposition increases Effect RES, damage gained per 100 DEF, and the damage cap; it takes a duplicate copy for each step. Raising superimposition is most relevant when the wearer can make use of the higher cap and personal damage matters to the build.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The Light Cone does not itself provide DEF, which its damage effect needs.
- Damage from DEF is capped, so additional DEF above the threshold does not raise this bonus.
- It improves the wearer’s damage rather than directly increasing allies’ damage or resistance.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the Light Cone grants DEF as well as scaling from it.
- Expecting the damage bonus to grow without limit as DEF rises.
- Confusing wearer damage with a party-wide damage buff.
