I Shall Be My Own Sword GUIDE
Understand I Shall Be My Own Sword
Useful when…
- Supporting a Destruction wearer who benefits from CRIT DMG.
- Turning teammate attacks or HP loss into a stronger next attack for the wearer.
Eclipse and the next attack
At S1, the wearer gains 20% CRIT DMG. When a teammate is attacked or loses HP, the wearer gains 1 Eclipse stack, up to 3. Each stack increases the wearer's next attack's DMG by 14%. At 3 stacks, that attack also ignores 12% of the enemy's DEF. The effect is removed after the wearer uses an attack. At S5, CRIT DMG is 32%, each stack adds 24% DMG, and the full-stack attack ignores 20% DEF. The trigger is teammate damage or HP loss; the wearer does not need to be the one attacked.
When to use it
Its value depends on Eclipse stacks being gained before the wearer attacks. If the wearer attacks before reaching 3 stacks, the attack consumes the accumulated effect without the maximum-stack DEF ignore. A Secret Vow instead gives general DMG and extra DMG against enemies whose HP percentage is at least the wearer's. A Trail of Bygone Blood offers CRIT Rate and boosts Skill and Ultimate DMG. A Thankless Coronation offers CRIT DMG and Ultimate-linked ATK and Energy effects, with a special condition at 300 Max Energy. These are alternatives with distinct triggers, not equivalent benefits.
Investment
Promotion raises the Light Cone's level. Superimposition raises CRIT DMG, per-stack damage, and the DEF ignored at maximum stacks, while the 3-stack cap stays fixed. Promotion is a direct progression improvement. Higher superimposition is most relevant when the wearer regularly reaches the full stack count before attacking and the improved attack is worth another copy.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The next attack consumes Eclipse, so timing affects how many stacks it uses.
- The DEF ignore requires all 3 stacks.
- Stack generation depends on teammates being attacked or losing HP.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the wearer must be attacked to gain Eclipse; teammate attacks and HP loss are the stated triggers.
- Expecting DEF ignore before reaching 3 stacks.
- Forgetting that the wearer’s attack removes the accumulated Eclipse effect.
