Understand Texture of Memories
Useful when…
- Wearer that benefits from Effect RES and personal damage reduction.
- Situations where the wearer may be attacked without a Shield and needs a conditional shield.
How does its protection work?
It increases the wearer’s Effect RES. If the wearer is attacked while they have no Shield, they gain a Shield based on Max HP for two turns; this can trigger only once every three turns. If they are attacked while they do have a Shield, damage they receive is reduced. The automatic shield and damage reduction depend on different shield conditions.
Who should consider it?
Its automatic shield helps when the wearer is attacked without one, but it is limited by a three-turn trigger interval. The damage reduction applies when the wearer has a Shield at the time of being attacked, whether that Shield came from this effect or another source. It is personal protection, not a stated teamwide shield or resistance effect.
What is worth upgrading?
Promotion improves the Light Cone’s level. Superimposition raises Effect RES, shield size, and damage reduction; it does not shorten the three-turn trigger interval or lengthen the shield’s two-turn duration. Consider promotion for base stats, then copies if increasing those defensive values is useful.
How do Preservation alternatives differ?
Amber raises DEF and adds more DEF when the wearer is below half HP. Concert for Two raises DEF and wearer damage for each on-field character with a Shield. Day One of My New Life increases DEF and grants all allies All-Type RES after entering battle. These support different conditions and are not equivalent to Texture’s Effect RES, self-shield trigger, and shielded damage reduction.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The automatic Shield requires being attacked without a Shield.
- That trigger has a three-turn interval.
- Damage reduction requires the wearer to have a Shield when attacked.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the automatic Shield to trigger while the wearer is already shielded.
- Assuming the three-turn trigger interval shortens with superimposition.
