Understand Trend of the Universal Market
Useful when…
- A Preservation wearer whose build uses DEF.
- A wearer likely to be attacked, allowing the Burn effect to attempt to trigger.
What happens when the wearer is attacked?
The Light Cone gives the wearer DEF: 16% at S1, rising to 32% at S5. When the wearer is attacked, it has a base chance to Burn that enemy. The listed base chance is 100% at S1 and 120% at S5. Burn deals damage over time equal to 40% of the wearer’s DEF per turn at S1, or 80% at S5, for two turns. The description does not explain how a base chance above 100% behaves against resistance, so it should not be read as a guarantee against every target.
When is it a practical fit?
The DEF increase supports the wearer’s DEF stat, and the Burn damage scales from the wearer’s DEF. The attack trigger means the effect is more relevant when enemies actually attack this wearer; it is not described as applying when the wearer attacks. Since Burn is damage over time, the Light Cone also contributes an offensive effect without requiring the wearer to use a particular attack type.
How should it be improved?
Promotion advances the Light Cone through stage 6. Superimposition raises DEF, base Burn chance, and the Burn damage percentage, while the listed two-turn duration stays unchanged. Each step consumes one S1 sacrifice copy. Prioritize promotion if the wearer needs the level investment; consider superimposition if spare copies are available and the wearer is frequently attacked and built around DEF.
How do the listed alternatives differ?
Amber grants DEF and adds more DEF when its wearer is below 50% HP. Concert for Two grants DEF and increases the wearer’s damage for each on-field character with a Shield. Day One of My New Life grants DEF and increases all allies’ All-Type RES after battle entry; effects of the same type cannot stack. These alternatives provide conditional personal DEF, shield-linked damage, or a team resistance effect rather than attack-triggered Burn.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Burn needs the wearer to be attacked to trigger.
- Burn damage scales with DEF, so the wearer’s DEF affects its listed damage amount.
- The two-turn duration does not increase with superimposition.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the wearer applies Burn by attacking.
- Ignoring the wearer’s DEF when considering the damage-over-time effect.
- Treating a base chance above 100% as an unconditional guarantee.
