Understand Luck of the Sea
Useful when…
- Raise the chance of treasure catches under default loot tables.
- Reduce the chance of junk catches while fishing.
How does it change fishing results?
Luck of the Sea adds 1 fishing-luck point at level I and one more per level above I, to a maximum of III. Under default loot tables, level III changes category chances from 85% fish, 5% treasure, and 10% junk to 84.5% fish, 11.3% treasure, and 4.2% junk. The distribution varies with loot tables, so these listed probabilities describe the default tables rather than every fishing setup.
When should you use it?
It applies to fishing rods. Consider it when treasure is the goal or when reducing junk is useful; the tradeoff in the default table is a modest reduction in fish chance as treasure odds rise. The enchantment can be obtained through enchanting tables, certain listed structure loot, and librarian trades; the reading also lists fishing as a source of books and enchanted rods.
What does anvil combining cost?
Luck of the Sea reaches level III, with an anvil book multiplier of 2 and item multiplier of 4. These multipliers describe how the enchanted book or item contributes to a combination, not a complete experience price. Higher levels add fishing luck linearly in the effect rule and produce a larger treasure chance under default loot tables.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Under default loot tables, treasure odds increase while fish odds decrease slightly.
- The listed catch probabilities are tied to default loot tables.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Luck of the Sea increases the chance of fish catches.
- Treating the default-table catch percentages as universal across all loot tables.
