Understand Lure
Useful when…
- Reduce the wait before a bite while fishing.
- Pair its faster bite pace with a separate fishing-loot goal.
What does Lure change?
Lure reduces fishing wait time by 5 seconds per level. Its effect rule adds 5 seconds of reduction at level I and another 5 seconds per level above I. It has a maximum level of III, so it reduces the wait by 15 seconds at that level. The supplied reading notes that Lure no longer changes catch-category odds in Java Edition.
When should you use it?
Lure applies to fishing rods and suits fishing where reducing time between bites is the goal. If the goal is to change the catch mix, Luck of the Sea is a distinct enchantment: Lure affects wait time, while Luck of the Sea shifts treasure, junk, and fish odds under default loot tables. A rod can therefore serve both goals when equipped with the respective enchantments.
How should you weigh anvil combining?
Lure reaches level III. Its anvil book multiplier is 2 and its item multiplier is 4; these multipliers are not a complete experience-price calculation. Each additional level reduces the listed wait by a further 5 seconds, so the benefit is most relevant when making many catches over time.
What is the unusual high-level limit?
The reference says command-created levels above V prevent the wait timer from starting, so fish do not bite. Ordinary Lure has a maximum level of III; this warning concerns levels beyond V rather than normal level investment.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Lure shortens the wait between bites but does not improve catch-category odds in Java Edition.
- The reported no-bite behavior applies to command levels above V, beyond its ordinary maximum level III.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting Lure to increase treasure chances or reduce junk catches.
- Confusing the time saved per level with a change to catch probabilities.
