How it works
The base-game sources say the Research Station is available at the start and needed for every research node. It needs power and Dirt; each Novice Research point costs 50 kg of Dirt. The building entry lists -60 W power, 750 kg Dirt storage, and susceptibility to flooding. The category passage says Novice Research points are required to research every technology.
