Understand Cautious Shot
Useful when…
- Reduce stagger from self-inflicted radial attacks while using a compatible rifle.
- Use it when self-stagger disrupts firing or movement often enough to justify the Exilus slot.
Effect and scope
Cautious Shot affects the Stagger effect from self-imposed Radial Attacks. Its chance to reduce that stagger increases from 9.1% at rank 0 to 54.5% at rank 5 and 100% at rank 10. It does not claim to prevent stagger from attacks made by enemies or other sources.
Slot and rank investment
This Rare rifle mod uses the Exilus slot, has Naramon polarity, base drain 0, and maximum rank 10. Rank increases the reduction chance, reaching 100% at rank 10. That last step costs 15,360 Endo and 741,888 Credits from rank 9 to 10, so stopping short can be sensible if a lower chance is adequate for your use. The mod is for rifles, not a general-purpose safeguard for every weapon class.
Related rifle options
Firestorm and Primed Firestorm improve blast radius on weapons with radial attacks, whereas Argon Scope grants critical chance after a weak point hit while aiming. These pursue different goals: increasing radius or conditional critical chance does not replace Cautious Shot’s self-stagger reduction.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Consumes the rifle Exilus slot for self-stagger mitigation rather than another utility effect.
- The final rank is a large resource investment for the increase from rank 9 to the listed 100% chance.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Equipping it expecting protection from enemy-caused stagger or from non-rifle weapons.
- Assuming rank 10 is mandatory; it improves the reduction chance, but the listed final rank-up has substantial Endo and Credit costs.
