Understand Flawed Contagious Spread
Useful when…
- Shotgun setups needing a Toxin damage component with the flawed mod available.
- Lower-rank investment where the flawed version's smaller bonus and drain are useful.
Effect and restrictions
The mod adds Toxin damage to shotguns, scaling from +10% at rank 0 to +40% at rank 3. It is a flawed standard-slot shotgun mod with Naramon polarity and base drain 4. Its explicitly incompatible name is Contagious Spread, so the flawed and standard versions cannot be equipped together.
Using it
Use it when adding Toxin to a shotgun is useful and the flawed version's smaller bonus fits your current setup. It supplies an elemental damage bonus; it does not add fire rate or revive speed. Accelerated Blast and Amalgam Shotgun Barrage provide those distinct listed effects, so they are not direct replacements for Toxin damage.
Rank cost and standard variant
The flawed mod has three ranks, reaching +40% Toxin. Its final rank costs 80 Endo and 3,864 Credits. Standard Contagious Spread reaches +90% Toxin at rank 5, with base drain 6, and is explicitly incompatible with the flawed version. Consider replacing the flawed mod when the standard variant's larger bonus is worth its higher drain and investment.
Common misread
Do not plan a shotgun loadout around equipping both variants: the incompatibility is explicit. The +40% value is the flawed mod's maximum at rank 3, not the standard variant's maximum.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The flawed variant tops out at +40% Toxin, below the standard variant's +90%.
- It cannot be equipped with Contagious Spread.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Equipping or planning to equip it alongside Contagious Spread.
- Confusing the flawed mod's +40% maximum with the standard variant's +90%.
