Understand Alternox
Useful when…
- Use primary fire for repeated Electricity damage.
- Use alternate fire to stick an orb to a surface for its pulse and explosion.
- Consider its projectile travel when aiming, especially at moving targets.
How do the fire modes differ?
Normal Attack fires at a listed 4.33 shots per second and deals 62 Electricity per hit, with 14% critical chance, a 2.2× critical multiplier, and 30% status chance. Alternate fire has separate listed components: contact damage of 5 Impact, 7.5 Slash, and 37.5 Puncture; 50 Electricity damage over time; and a 100 Electricity area explosion. The alternate-fire entries each list 2% critical chance, a 2× multiplier, and 44% status chance. The pulse and explosion have falloff out to 6 m, with 60% reduction at that distance. What handling and investment details matter?
Both attacks are projectiles, each listed at 60 projectile speed, so aim with travel time in mind. The rifle has a 28-round magazine and a 1.8-second reload. It requires Mastery Rank 8, has a rank cap of 30, and has one Madurai polarity that can inform mod-slot planning. In Gyre's hands, the description says it gains a small amount of multishot; the base details list multishot as 1, so do not assume that character-specific property applies to other wielders. What should you watch for in combat?
The primary and alternate attacks have different critical and status profiles; do not carry the primary attack's 14% critical chance or 30% status chance over to alternate fire. Treat the alternate contact, damage-over-time, and explosion entries as separate components rather than assuming every target receives all of them. For another rifle with two modes, Aeolak is described as having Radiation primary fire and a charged explosive alternate shot; Trumna instead has a life-essence-fueled secondary and a ricocheting explosive projectile. These descriptions indicate different attack patterns, not a performance ranking. Limitations and tradeoffs
- Both modes use projectiles, so hits require accounting for travel.
- Alternate fire has low listed critical chance and falloff on its pulse and explosion.
- The Gyre-specific multishot description is conditional on wielding it as Gyre.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating either projectile mode as hitscan.
- Applying primary-fire critical or status values to alternate fire.
- Assuming the Gyre-specific multishot effect applies with another wielder.
