Understand Coda Bassocyst
Useful when…
- Use the primary fire for direct blast and radiation damage, especially at close to medium range.
- Use alternate fire to swarm targets that are not vulnerable to Mercy Kills, or to execute targets that are vulnerable.
How do its firing modes work?
The primary attack is a semi-automatic projectile with 789 Blast and 19 Radiation damage listed, 18% critical chance, 2.2× critical damage, and 40% status chance. Its projectile travels at 62; damage falls off from 35 to 60 meters, with a listed 67.45% reduction at the end of that range. The alternate fire is a separate projectile attack: it fires at 1.67 per second, travels at 40, and lists 303 Blast damage. Its description gives the key conditional effect: firing at a target that is not vulnerable to a Mercy Kill swarms it with infested mites; firing at a vulnerable target performs a ranged execution.
What handling should I expect?
The primary fire is semi-automatic, with a listed rate of 1.17 shots per second, a 24-round magazine, and a 2.5-second reload. Although its listed accuracy is 100, its shots are projectiles rather than hitscan, so aim ahead of moving targets when needed. Its 35-meter falloff start makes it a better fit for closer engagements than for maintaining full damage at long range. The weapon requires Mastery Rank 17 and has a rank cap of 40.
What should guide investment and alternatives?
The weapon has one Madurai polarity and no listed upgrade track. If you want another shotgun with two distinct attack behaviors, Corinth offers buckshot and an airburst that knocks down nearby enemies; Cedo instead has a ricocheting glaive and primary damage that increases with each status effect on a target. These are different mechanics, not direct replacements for Bassocyst’s Mercy-state-dependent alternate fire.
What is easy to misread?
Do not treat the alternate fire as a universal execution: the description ties execution to targets already vulnerable to Mercy Kills, while other targets are swarmed with mites. Also account for projectile travel and the primary fire’s falloff instead of assuming hitscan performance at every distance.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The primary mode has substantial listed Blast damage but meaningful distance falloff.
- The alternate fire’s result depends on Mercy Kill vulnerability.
- The projectile attacks require accounting for travel time.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting alternate fire to execute targets that are not Mercy Kill vulnerable.
- Ignoring projectile travel and the primary attack’s falloff beyond 35 meters.
