Polearm with a heavy-attack throw

Released Apr 26, 2023

Edun is a polearm whose heavy attack throws the weapon; when it embeds in an enemy, it explodes. Consider it if you want conventional polearm strikes plus a distinct projectile and explosion attack sequence.

Edun GUIDE

Understand Edun

Useful when…

  • Use normal polearm attacks for 3 m melee range and a 34% critical chance.
  • Use the heavy-attack throw against a target when the embedded-weapon explosion mechanic is useful.

Normal attacks and slam

Normal attacks list 220 total damage: 110 Slash, 66 Puncture, and 44 Impact. They attack at speed 1, with 34% critical chance, 2.6x multiplier, and 20% status chance. The regular slam deals 440 Impact area damage, with falloff from 0 to 7 m and 50% reduction; the heavy slam deals 660 Blast, with falloff from 0 to 8 m and 30% reduction. These are separate from the polearm throw.

Heavy-attack throw

The Polearm Throw is a projectile attack with listed speed 50 and flight 50. It lists 30% critical chance, a 2.6x critical multiplier, and 20% status chance, with 144 Impact, 144 Slash, and 192 Puncture. The separate Polearm Explosion is an area mode dealing 400 Blast, with falloff from 0 to 4 m and 30% reduction. The description states that the thrown Edun explodes after embedding in an enemy; do not treat the projectile and explosion as one damage line.

Fit and alternatives

Edun requires no Mastery Rank, has three Madurai polarities, and lists a one-second wind-up. The heavier wind-up matters when planning repeated heavy attacks. Argo & Vel is a sword-and-shield weapon whose heavy attack sends a ricocheting glaive; Corufell transforms into a Gunblade for heavy attacks; Quassus is a Warfan that scatters daggers. These are alternatives for players seeking different weapon classes or heavy-attack behaviors, not direct polearm substitutes.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The throw's one-second weapon wind-up and conditional embedded explosion make it a more deliberate heavy-attack choice.
  • The throw projectile and explosion have distinct damage types and falloff.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Do not describe the thrown projectile as immediately dealing the listed Blast explosion damage; the explosion is a separate mode after embedding.
  • Do not confuse regular slam, heavy slam, and heavy-attack throw damage values.
