Understand Epitaph
Useful when…
- Use uncharged shots for the described slowing effect and listed AoE attack.
- Charge shots for the higher-critical, high-velocity projectile.
Uncharged attack
The uncharged direct hit lists 2% critical chance, a 1.2× multiplier, and 50% status chance, with 40 Impact, 30 Slash, and 30 Puncture damage. A separate uncharged AoE entry lists 20 Blast damage, also at 50% status chance, with falloff ending at eight units and 80% reduction. The description says the slow-moving slab guarantees a slow effect; keep that mechanic distinct from the listed damage values.
Charged shot
The charged shot has a listed 0.4-second charge time and fires a projectile at speed 200. It lists 48% critical chance, a 2.6× critical multiplier, and 4% status chance, with 300 damage across Impact, Slash, and Puncture. The description says it has high velocity, high critical chance, and punches through barriers. In Sevagoth's hands, the weapon deals additional headshot damage. Do not transfer the charged statistics to uncharged attacks.
Choosing investment and alternatives
Epitaph has two Madurai polarities, a rank cap of 30, and Mastery requirement 8. Its charged mode favors critical-oriented consideration, while uncharged fire has a much higher listed status chance. Epitaph Prime is a related signature sidearm with additional headshot damage in Sevagoth Prime's hands. Bolto instead fires slow, heavy bolts capable of impaling enemies to walls; Cyanex offers automatic homing projectiles and a non-homing full-magazine burst. These are different handling choices.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Charged shot has high listed critical chance but requires a charge and has low status chance.
- Uncharged mode has higher status chance and an AoE entry, but lower critical stats and slower projectile speed.
- Headshot bonus is conditional on wielding it as Sevagoth.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying charged-shot critical statistics to uncharged fire.
- Combining uncharged direct hit and AoE entries as one damage packet.
- Assuming Sevagoth's headshot bonus applies to every wielder.
