Understand Grendel
Useful when…
- Consuming enemies for passive bonus armor
- Using Nourish for health regeneration and its described Viral damage and energy effects
- Rolling through enemies with Pulverize or using its jump slam
- Using Regurgitate to slow nearby enemies and dissolve their armor
Feast and Nourish
Feast swallows enemies and stores them in Grendel’s gut; holding the ability vomits stored enemies out covered in toxic bile. Each consumed enemy grants bonus armor, but the amount is not provided. Nourish regenerates health as Grendel absorbs nourishment from enemies in his gut. While he digests, enemies that attack or are attacked by Grendel suffer Viral Damage, and energy sources provide more energy. These buffs extend to squad mates.
Pulverize and Regurgitate
Pulverize curls Grendel into a ball. He heals over time as he rolls and knocks over enemies in his path; jumping slams him into the ground and generates a damaging shockwave. Regurgitate ejects a bile-soaked enemy as a toxic projectile, with bonus damage based on that enemy’s maximum health. Nearby enemies are slowed and have their armor dissolved by the bile.
Listed stats and polarities
Grendel has 1095 health, 95 shields, and 370 armor. His listed polarities are Naramon and two Vazarin; his aura polarity is Naramon.
Comparison
Grendel Prime has the same listed health and shields, 400 armor instead of Grendel’s 370, and an additional Madurai polarity. Oberon’s description emphasizes healing and support, while Grendel’s describes enemy consumption, digestion effects, and toxic attacks.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The amount of passive bonus armor per consumed enemy is not provided.
- Nourish ties health regeneration to nourishment from enemies in Grendel’s gut; its Viral damage and increased energy effects are described as occurring while he digests.
- Pulverize’s rolling effects and jump-slam shockwave are distinct actions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the unresolved bonus armor per consumed enemy has a known value.
- Treating Nourish’s Viral damage and increased energy effects as explicitly dependent on enemies remaining in the gut.
- Confusing Pulverize’s rolling heal and knockdowns with its jump-slam shockwave.
