Understand Phantasma
Useful when…
- Use the beam for continuous hitscan damage and its listed radiation component.
- Charge the plasma bomb when you want its impact, explosion, and bomblet sequence rather than the beam.
What does each mode do?
The beam is a held hitscan attack at speed 12, with 5 impact and 10 radiation damage, 3% critical chance, a 1.5× multiplier, and 22.2% status chance. The plasma bomb takes one second to charge; its projectile impact lists 15 impact damage, while its area explosion lists 73 radiation damage with 50% falloff across 0–4.8 m. The description says the bomb produces homing bomblets; their impacts list 3 impact damage each and their explosions list 18 radiation damage. Those entries are separate attacks, not one combined beam value.
How should I handle it?
The primary beam is held-trigger, with listed fire rate 12, six multishot, an 11-round magazine, and a 0.5-second reload. The weapon description says Revenant increases magazine capacity, but gives no amount; do not assign a number to that signature benefit. The bomb is a separate slower attack listed at speed 2, so switch to it deliberately rather than expecting the beam's continuous handling.
What upgrade direction fits?
The beam has 22.2% status chance, while bomb and bomblet attacks list 37%. Status-oriented upgrades are therefore a plausible direction if you use those attacks. Critical-focused investment is less naturally supported by the listed 3% critical chance and 1.5× multiplier. Two polarities, Naramon and Madurai, are listed; the weapon requires Mastery 9.
What should players watch for?
The beam's very low critical chance makes it easy to overestimate a critical-focused setup based on shotgun labeling. The explosive mode requires a one-second charge, and its listed area damage falls by half at the 4.8 m endpoint. The Revenant magazine increase is conditional on wielding it with Revenant, but its size is unspecified.
What alternatives have different strengths?
Phantasma Prime is described as a variant with increased magazine capacity and a Revenant-specific magazine increase. Cedo is described as gaining damage for each status effect on a target and having a ricocheting glaive alternate attack. Coda Bassocyst offers an alternate attack that performs a ranged execution on vulnerable enemies or releases mites on others. Those effects differ from Phantasma’s continuous radiation beam and plasma-bomb sequence.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Beam supports rapid continuous hitscan application; alternate fire requires charging.
- Very low listed critical chance makes status emphasis a more natural conditional direction.
- Area attacks have falloff and bomblet effects are distinct from the beam.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Building around critical chance as though the beam's listed 3% were high.
- Assuming Revenant's magazine increase has a known size or applies to other Warframes.
