Understand Viper
Useful when…
- Close-range automatic fire where its high fire rate is useful.
- Early secondary progression when its Mastery Rank 4 requirement is accessible.
How it fires
Viper’s single attack is automatic and hit-scan, firing about 14.38 shots per second. Each shot deals 17 base damage, mostly Impact, with 15% critical chance, a 1.5× critical multiplier and 11% status chance. Its accuracy stat is about 15.38, so it is better suited to nearby targets than precise long-range shots.
Magazine and reload
The 14-round magazine is small for a weapon firing at this speed, but its listed reload is only 0.7 seconds. Expect frequent reloads while holding the trigger; the short reload limits downtime but does not change the need to track remaining rounds.
Investment and alternatives
Viper requires Mastery Rank 4 and has one Naramon polarity for a matching mod slot. If you want more deliberate long-range shots, Lex is described as powerful and accurate but slower, with a low magazine. Kuva Brakk is a semi-automatic shotgun sidearm, and Kuva Seer is a variant pistol with superior zoom and a small Corrosive burst on projectiles; their handling and unlock progression differ from Viper’s compact automatic profile.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Small capacity means frequent reloads during sustained fire.
- The low accuracy value and high fire rate encourage closer engagement.
- Its listed critical and status chances are modest.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the 14-round magazine supports long uninterrupted firing at 14.38 shots per second.
- Using it for deliberate distant shots despite its low listed accuracy.
