Exothermic GUIDE

Understand Exothermic

Useful when…

  • Adding an energy-orb chance to enemies killed under Inferno.
  • Supporting an Ember setup that uses Inferno.

Effect and condition

Exothermic is an Ember augment for Inferno. An enemy must be killed while under Inferno’s effect for the mod’s energy-orb chance to apply. The chance is 5% at rank 0, 10% at rank 2, and 15% at rank 3.

Use and alternatives

Consider Exothermic when Inferno kills are part of your play and energy orbs are useful to your setup. It is a standard-slot Ember mod with Zenurik polarity and base drain 6. Other Ember augments have different effects: Fireball Frenzy grants allies bonus Heat Damage after a held Fireball cast; Healing Flame heals based on enemies hit by Fire Blast and can grant Ember Overguard from overhealing; Immolated Radiance shares part of Immolation’s damage reduction with allies in Affinity range.

Rank investment

The orb chance rises from 5% at rank 0 to 15% at rank 3. The listed costs are 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits for ranks 0 to 1, 60 Endo and 2,898 Credits for ranks 1 to 2, and 120 Endo and 5,796 Credits for ranks 2 to 3. Higher ranks improve the chance; the qualifying condition remains that the enemy be killed while under Inferno’s effect.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The effect requires a qualifying Inferno kill and remains a chance rather than a guaranteed orb.
  • Uses an Ember mod slot with base drain 6.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Expecting an orb for every Inferno kill; the listed chance is at most 15% at rank 3.
