Understand Maiming Strike
Useful when…
- Increasing critical chance on melee slide attacks.
- Using a low-drain standard mod slot for a slide-attack-specific effect.
Effect and attack condition
At maximum rank, Maiming Strike gives +150% Critical Chance for Slide Attack. Rank 0 gives +25%, and rank 3 gives +100%. The listed effect is explicitly limited to slide attacks, so do not apply it to other melee attacks.
Slot and fusion investment
This Rare, standard melee mod has Madurai polarity, base drain 2, and maximum rank 5. The supplied costs are 30 Endo and 1,449 Credits to reach rank 1, 120 Endo and 5,796 Credits to reach rank 3, and 480 Endo and 23,184 Credits to reach rank 5. Its low listed base drain may help with capacity, while ranking raises the slide-attack bonus at increasing fusion cost.
Other critical chance conditions
Blood Rush gives +40% Critical Chance that stacks with Combo Multiplier, making its stated scaling condition different. Flawed True Steel gives +80% Critical Chance and doubles the effect for Heavy Attacks. Dreamer’s Wrath enables Tennokai, increases opportunity chance by 50%, and adds 32% Critical Damage for Tennokai attacks. These options target different attack or combo conditions and are not direct equivalents to slide-attack critical chance.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The critical chance applies to slide attacks, so its usefulness depends on using that attack type.
- Rank increases require Endo and Credits; the bonus does not broaden to other attack types as it ranks up.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not count the bonus for ordinary or heavy attacks; the stated condition is slide attack.
- Do not confuse Critical Chance with the Critical Damage bonus on Dreamer’s Wrath.
