Flawed True Steel

Flawed melee critical chance mod

Released Jul 18, 2014

Flawed True Steel adds melee critical chance, with twice the listed bonus for Heavy Attacks. It is a limited-rank option to consider when you want a critical chance boost and do not have or cannot use the standard True Steel variant.

Understand Flawed True Steel

Useful when…

  • Early or constrained melee builds that can use the Flawed variant.
  • Melee builds where Heavy Attacks benefit from its doubled critical chance bonus.

Effect and fit

At maximum rank, Flawed True Steel grants +80% Critical Chance, doubled for Heavy Attacks; at rank 0 it grants +20%, also doubled for Heavy Attacks. It is a standard melee mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 4, and maximum rank 3. It cannot be equipped alongside True Steel, Galvanized Steel, Sacrificial Steel, or Amalgam Ripkas True Steel.

Choosing a rank

The listed fusion steps cost 10, 20, and 40 Endo, plus 483, 966, and 1,932 Credits respectively. Each rank raises the listed critical chance, including the doubled Heavy Attack bonus. True Steel reaches +120% at rank 5, compared with this Flawed variant's +80% at rank 3; it shares the same listed polarity and base drain, but the two are mutually exclusive. Sacrificial Steel offers +220% Critical Chance, doubled for Heavy Attacks, and also lists x1.33 Damage to Sentients, but has Umbra polarity, base drain 6, and a maximum rank of 10. These are different fitting and investment choices, not effects to combine.

Related melee options

Amalgam Organ Shatter provides +85% Critical Damage and +60% Heavy Attack Wind Up Speed, rather than a critical chance bonus. It can be a separate consideration when those effects suit the setup; the available information does not establish that it replaces a critical chance mod in every build.

Limitations and tradeoffs

  • The Flawed variant's maximum listed bonus is lower than True Steel's, and its rank cap is 3.
  • It cannot be equipped with the explicitly named Steel variants in its exclusion list.
  • Critical chance bonuses do not themselves specify a final damage amount.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Trying to equip it alongside True Steel, Galvanized Steel, Sacrificial Steel, or Amalgam Ripkas True Steel.
  • Forgetting that the stated Heavy Attack critical chance bonus is doubled.
  • Assuming a critical chance percentage directly states final damage.
