Understand True Steel
Useful when…
- Melee weapons whose critical chance you want to raise.
- Heavy Attack setups that can take advantage of the doubled listed bonus.
Effect and compatibility
At maximum rank, True Steel grants +120% Critical Chance, doubled for Heavy Attacks; at rank 0 it grants +20%, doubled for Heavy Attacks. It is a standard melee mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 4, and maximum rank 5. Its exclusion list names Galvanized Steel, Sacrificial Steel, Amalgam Ripkas True Steel, and Flawed True Steel, so it cannot be equipped with those mods.
Investing in ranks
Fusion costs increase sharply in later ranks. Listed examples include 10 Endo and 483 Credits for rank 0 to 1, 40 Endo and 1,932 Credits for rank 2 to 3, and 160 Endo and 7,728 Credits for rank 4 to 5. Each step adds critical chance, but the late-rank cost is much higher. Choose a rank based on your available capacity and the value of the added chance to your weapon.
Alternatives with different benefits
Flawed True Steel reaches +80% Critical Chance at rank 3, doubled for Heavy Attacks, and shares the listed Madurai polarity and base drain 4, but True Steel cannot be equipped with it. Sacrificial Steel lists +220% Critical Chance, doubled for Heavy Attacks, plus x1.33 Damage to Sentients; it has Umbra polarity and base drain 6. Amalgam Organ Shatter instead provides +85% Critical Damage and +60% Heavy Attack Wind Up Speed. These options differ in effect, fitting, or cost, and are not automatically interchangeable.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Higher ranks provide more critical chance but require progressively greater fusion costs.
- The mod uses a standard slot and cannot coexist with the named incompatible critical chance variants.
- The listed bonus is critical chance, not a final damage multiplier.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Attempting to equip it with one of its explicitly excluded variants.
- Overlooking the much higher fusion cost of the final ranks.
- Reading the critical chance bonus as a direct increase to final damage.
