Understand Maul
Useful when…
- Increasing damage from compatible companion claw weapons.
- Choosing a gradual rank investment rather than immediately maxing a ten-rank mod.
Effect and compatibility
Maul grants +30% Melee Damage at rank 0, +180% at rank 5, and +330% at rank 10. It is a standard claw mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 4, and maximum rank 10. The bonus is a mod stat, not a final damage result.
Choose damage or other claw functions
Bell Ringer adds knockdown and Impact status effects; Brute Conditioning increases melee damage while converting base physical damage to Impact; Cull the Weak scales damage by status types on the target and adds damage for non-critical hits. These effects have distinct conditions and properties. Maul is the straightforward listed melee damage bonus, while the alternatives ask for particular control or status interactions.
Rank investment and sources
This ten-rank mod has steep late costs: the listed 5→6 step costs 640 Endo and 30,912 Credits, while 9→10 costs 10,240 Endo and 494,592 Credits. A lower rank provides a partial bonus and may be a sensible stopping point when resources are limited. Listed sources include Drahk and related enemy entries at 0.11%, and Earth/Cervantes Caches Rotation C at 3.67%.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- The ten-rank track has sharply increasing Endo and Credit costs.
- Its damage role does not provide the control or conditional effects of the comparison candidates.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating +330% as the companion’s final damage.
- Maxing the ten-rank track without accounting for its sharply rising late costs.
