Understand Pounce
Useful when…
- Add a companion attack with a short stun against enemies.
- Use when the Kavat's Madurai polarity and modest starting drain fit the companion build.
What does Pounce do?
At rank 0, the pounce deals 60% damage; at rank 2 it deals 80%, and at rank 3 it deals 90%. Each listed rank also stuns the target for a short duration. The stun duration is not specified, so the supported benefit is an interruption rather than a guaranteed period of control.
Where does it fit?
Pounce is a standard Kavat mod with Madurai polarity, base drain 2, and maximum rank 3. Its use is a companion's direct attack and brief stun; the inputs do not specify range, activation conditions, or additional effects. Fear Sense instead describes sensing enemies within 25 m and boosting the Kavat's attacks for 25 seconds, while Sharpened Claws describes a 300% damage attack that sunders armor. Those have distinct effects and are not direct substitutes for Pounce's stun.
How far should you rank it?
The increase from rank 0 to rank 3 is 30 percentage points of listed attack damage, while the stun remains part of the effect at each listed rank. Rank 1 costs 20 Endo and 966 Credits from rank 0; later listed steps cost 40/1,932 and 80/3,864 respectively. Raise it when the additional listed damage is useful and the Endo and Credits fit your priorities.
What should you keep in mind?
Pounce's damage percentage is the precept's listed attack value, not a final damage calculation. Do not assume the short stun has a particular duration or that the Kavat will target a chosen enemy; neither detail is specified. It occupies a standard Kavat slot, so account for that slot when choosing other companion mods.
Limitations and tradeoffs
- Rank increases the listed damage but requires progressively more Endo and Credits.
- Its effect is a brief stun and attack; it does not provide the broader attack bonus described for Fear Sense or the armor-sundering effect described for Sharpened Claws.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the short stun as a quantified or guaranteed long-duration disable.
- Reading the listed damage percentage as the Kavat's final damage output.
